FAQ
Straight answers.
What owners ask me before they hire anyone. If yours is not here, ask it on the call.
Getting started
Software, books, and fit.
- Do I have to change software?
- No. I work in whatever you already run, QuickBooks most often. I will not make you migrate systems to hire me.
- My books are a mess. Is that a problem?
- Almost nobody arrives with clean books. Clean-up is quoted separately and up front. Once caught up, the monthly fee holds.
- I already have a bookkeeper.
- Plenty do, and the books still cannot answer the questions that matter. Sometimes the fix is a restructure yours can run, and I will say so.
- How small is too small?
- A small operation with decent books does not need monthly accounting. The tax-only packages exist for that.
- I am a contractor. Is this different?
- Yes, enough that it has its own page. Job costing changes how the books have to be built.
Tax
Entity, timing, and the bill.
- Should I be an S corp?
- Depends on profit and what you pay yourself. It is one of the first things I check on a return review, and the answer changes as the business grows.
- Should I buy the equipment before December?
- Sometimes. Section 179 and bonus make it efficient in a strong year. It is also real cash out the door. Worth a call in November, not at filing.
- Do you handle sales tax?
- Yes, as part of the monthly engagement. The rules vary by state and it is one of the more common places I find exposure.
- Who answers a notice?
- I do. Correspondence with tax authorities is included in the year-round engagements.
Working together
Price, scope, and what happens next.
- Why is there no price on the site?
- Scope drives it. Transaction volume, entity count, states, and the state of the books all move the number.
- Do you bill hourly for questions?
- No. The fee is flat and includes talking to me. Owners billed per call stop calling, and then I hear about the big decision afterwards.
- Do you do audits or reviewed statements?
- No. If a bank or bonding company needs one, I will point you to a firm that does them.
- What happens on the call?
- Thirty minutes. Volume, entity structure, the state of your books. You get an honest answer on fit and a fixed price in writing.
See what it would cost you.
Thirty minutes, a real price in writing, an honest answer on fit. Or send last year's return and I will review it free.
