Contractors

You know what the year made. You don't know which jobs made it.

Outsourced accounting, job costing, and tax for remodelers, roofers, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical. Books closed monthly, gross profit by job, flat fee.

The problem

The books that file your return cannot price your next job.

Most contractor books have one income account, one for materials, and payroll in a lump. That files a return and answers nothing else.

What you have now

A net number for the year. Every job averaged into one line, so the winners and the disasters cancel out.

What job costing adds

Material, labor, and sub cost tagged to the job. Gross profit per job, per crew, per salesperson. Estimate against actual.

What you do with it

Reprice the work that keeps missing. Stop bidding what never pays. Find out whether your best crew really is.

Common questions

The things contractors ask me first.

Do I have to leave QuickBooks?
No. I fix it inside QuickBooks. Buildertrend, JobTread, ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber, and Knowify are all fine.
Can you tell me if my subs should be employees?
Yes, checked against how your crews work rather than the paperwork. I also track W-9s and certificates, because a sub without a current one gets swept into your payroll at the comp audit.
What is a WIP schedule and do I need one?
It recognizes revenue and cost in proportion to how complete a job is. Jobs finishing inside a month, no. Jobs crossing a year end, yes.

See what it would cost you.

Thirty minutes, a real price in writing, an honest answer on fit. Or send last year's return and I will review it free.
